Hayter's Tigers role

Sheffield Tigers' preparations for next season have already started with the appointment of a new head coach.

Gregor Hayter, who has been playing with Rotherham Titans in the Championship, will head up a new coaching team for next season which will be announced shortly although clubmate and former Tigers player Andy Barnes is set to be part of the new set-up.

Director of rugby, Richard Senior, said: "It is fantastic news for the club that two Championship players will be playing at Tigers next season.

"We have some more additions to make over the coming weeks but we are moving forward with some excellent player coaches.

"Gregor will bring much experience to the club and will fit in very well and, with the Tigers crowd favourite Barnsey coming back as well, things are starting to look good for next season."

Tigers ended their season with a 27-17 defeat at Rossendale which saw them finish 10th in National 3 North.

For the third successive Saturday Tigers conceded too many points at the start of the match, only this time they couldn't pull back the deficit against a hard tackling defence.

The home side eased their way into a 22-0 half-time lead and it looked all over for Tigers, especially when Rossendale added another unconverted try after 48 minutes. On the hour the visitors substituted rested Richard Joel for Dominic Parsons and Sam Bastock for winger Tim Bowman and almost immediately Dave Scully scored an unconverted try in the corner. Minutes later left-winger Simon Pratt scored in the corner and Durandt added the conversion. Durandt added a further unconverted try as Tigers added more respectablity to the scoreline.

Team: Toews, Thompson, Cone, Parsons (Joel), Wilkinson, Pearson N, Sandhu, Hannam, Scheinkonige, Scully(C), Pratt, Buchanan, McKenzie, Bowman (Bastock), Durandt Replacement not used: Lidster.

Tigers were involved in the Yorkshire Cup Final against National League 1 side Wharfedale at Huddersfield YMCA last night.
