Leaders Holmesfield will host Hollinsend Methodist in the MPH Joinery Yorkshire and Derbyshire First Division this weekend after coming out on top against last season’s champions Sheffield University Staff last week.
Holmesfield travelled to Warminster Road and were halted at 108-3, but David Ward took 5-17 to dismiss the Staffs for 71 and increase their lead at the top of the table in a key point of the season.
Hollinsend Meths will still look to have a say in the destination of the title this year, after beating Appleknowle thanks to Michael Parker’s 59.
Consequently, Staff fell to fourth behind De La Salle, who moved second after beating Hundall by eight wickets, and Hollinsend Meths. Staffs will face Stocksbridge this weekend as they try to close the gap on the top three.
Stocksbridge, though, will go into that clash on the back of a six-wicket victory over bottom side Grindleford.
Sheffield Centralians face a crucial match against Hundall, as they attempt to put further ground between themselves and the bottom two. They beat Parkhead by six wickets, despite Jamie Carrington’s 128 for the losers. In Division Two, Ashford in the Water will go into this weekend’s game against Sheffield Collegiate with a 19 point lead, and Hallam, who beat Dronfield Woodhouse last time out, continue to lead the way in Division Three, but hold only a narrow seven point lead over Totley, who beat Stocksbridge.
