Elite League leaders Sheffield Steelers lost for the second match in a row as second-placed Belfast Giants scored a big 5-2 home win last night, Saturday.

The result brought the Northern Irishmen to within a point of their title rivals and extended their winning streak to 12 matches.

The defeat for coach Ben Simon adds extra importance to tonight’s game at Nottingham Panthers (4pm)

If Sheffield lose and Cardiff Devils win at home to Braehead Clan, twin-club owner Paul Ragan’s two teams will be joint top.

Edinburgh’s miserable run continued as they followed up their 16-0 thrashing last night with a 7-1 reverse at the hands of Braehead to make it 25 defeats in a row.

Things were closer between Coventry Blaze and Hull Stingrays, with the latter edging an away win 6-5.

In the final fixture of the night, yesterday, Devils triumphed 7-3 at Newcastle Vipers.
