Ladies make winning return

Sheffield Hallam Ladies celebrated their return to action after the winter break with a well-deserved 3-2 win at Bowden.

They were twiced pegged back by the home side but eventually came through to take then points courtesy of goals from Emma Fearnley, Kath Hughes and Sophie Elsworth.

Hallam face another National League club second team on Saturday when Brooklands Poynton visit Abbeydale (1:30pm). The Sheffield side will be looking to complete a winning double over Brooklands who are two places below and two points behind them in the North Conference table.

There was a Winter warmer for the second team as they romped to a 4-1 win over a strong Newcastle University side.

Hot-shot Claire Winter bagged a hat-trick and Emily Price added the other as Hallam moved up to eighth in the North Division 2 East table although they need to make sure they finish at least seventh to avoid relegation.

They do, however, have matches against the bottom sides as is the case on Saturday when they travel to struggling Driffield who are currently second bottom.
