Top scorer Jeff Legue has put aside a potential personal milestone this coming weekend to record a vote of confidence in Sheffield Steelers’ management team.
Legue will almost certainly record a point this weekend - he averages one a game. And that’s all he needs to join the pantheon of four other Elite greats who have scored 500 EIHL points.
His team has been unpredictable this year. But nobody in the dressing room is pointing fingers at coaches Doug Christiansen and Marc Lefebvre.
“It’s been frustrating to date, none of us are happy with form and lack of inconsistency” he said. “We have every confidence in Doug and the rest of our team though, we will put it right long-term but now all thoughts are on Saturday, Hull Stingrays and the Challenge Cup”
Steelers travel to Hull before hosting Fife Flyers on Sunday. “The Cup a competition I haven’t won with Steelers, we’ve won the League a couple of times and the Play Offs” said Legue.
“Saturday is important. Having lost last Sunday we don’t want to make it two on the bounce. We haven’t played Hull for a while, they have improved and have made the quarter finals of the cup once again knocking Coventry out. That shows they are a good side.
“We need to finish this round-robin on a high and if possible to make second place. It look’s like Fife or Dundee in the quarter finals. They will be games played at the Arena, big Cup nights are always fun.”
Legue added: “We know we have a real shot at the Cup this year. Maybe a good run in the Challenge Cup is just what we need to get ourselves going in the League as well.”
