Helen Naylor once again led the way for Sheffield Hatters as they registered a 75-62 victory at Barking Abbey last Saturday.

Naylor scored 21 points, ably supported by Stephanie Gandy who added 13.

The City of Sheffield Saints, meanwhile, were without the services of coach Garnet Gayle for their game against Sefton Stars, and his absence was sorely felt as Sheffield fell to a 79-52 loss.

Gayle was missing on duty with the club’s Under 18 side in Derby, as Sefton looked to avenge their home defeat last season which effectively denied them automatic promotion to Division Two.

The Saints started well, scoring 15 points and dominating defensive and offensive boards in the first quarter. But in the second, Sefton went on a 15-2 run and Sheffield, despite two threes from Joe Swaby and five from Chris Hackett, Sheffield found themselves 41-32 down at the break.

Sefton were even more deadly in the third quarter, and Sheffield were left with a mountain to climb in the final quarter. They managed to rally briefly, went on a 7-0 run but couldn’t get the better of a well organised Sefton side.

Top scorers: Javan Hayles 14, Chris Hackett 12, Callum McKenzie & Joe Swaby 8, Luke Parker 6.
