Sheffield Steelers were still smarting from Boxing Day’s 4-0 hiding at home to the Nottingham Panthers when they entered the NIC last night.
Panthers had ruined many a Christmas at the Arena, and were intent on doing it again yesterday.
But Sheffield, seemingly, weren’t going to let that happen and scored after three minutes from Colton Fretter.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 to Sheffield with Rob Dowd doubling the lead.
Some outstanding work from Frank Doyle, in Sheffield’s net, ensured it stayed that way throughout the first period.
Panthers’ talisman Chris Lawrence put the home side back into the game with a neat finish at 25;35.
Nottingham’s tails were up again, but they were still a goal down after 40 minutes play and Steelers had outshot them over two periods.
With just 83 seconds left of the game Charles Landry levelled for the home side to take the game into overtime.
And the death knell fell when Lawrence grabbed his second on the Power Play.
At least Sheffield had a point from the back-to-back games - but make no mistake, they need to do better than this.
