Titles to be decided in final race meet

The fourth and final South Yorkshire Cross Country League meeting is on Sunday at Winterhill, Kimberworth.

It invariably attracts a stronger field than the previous races because it doubles as the South Yorkshire Championships and is a compulsory event in deciding the League title, along with two other performances.

Robyn Lanceley (Rotherham), with two victories, is virtually certain to win the women’s title if she competes in Sunday’s race.

The men’s title is more complex with the second race abandoned when stray deer got on the course.

Steven Bayon (Sheffield University) and Hallamshire international Andy Heyes have each won one race.

Heyes had to miss the European trial recently due to illness and may want to test himself, in which case he is virtually certain to win.

The men’s race starts the proceedings at 11:00 am with the women at 11:45 followed by the younger age groups.
