Star Grass Roots has retired from the track and already been rehomed into a loving new family to enjoy her post-racing days.
The promising dog, which has been owned by the Star for the last year, picked up a slight niggle after her routine seasonal rest so it was decided that it was in her best interests to not race anymore.
Dave Perry, general manager of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, where Star Grass Roots raced, said: “The welfare of our dogs is absolutely paramount and it has been decided that Star Grass Roots will not return to the track.
“It has been difficult because she showed so much promise and is a lovely dog but we would prefer to be over cautious with these matters and a new life awaits her.
“We are delighted that she quickly found a loving home and has settled in very well. We wish Star Grass Roots and her new family all the best.”
Thanks to Star Grass Roots’ racing career, a donation of £564 will be made to The Star’s chosen charity, St Luke’s Hospice.
