Competing against some karters at least eight years older than him, Thomas did well in the qualifying heats and gained pole position.

After slipping back to fifth spot, Thomas showed his race craft, dug deep and managed to retake the lead on the final corner of the last lap to win the race by 0.09 seconds.

Holding the cup, he said: “I’m very happy to be the first-ever and youngest Senior X30 Open champion.”

For the rest of this season and until the 2019 Senior X30 O-Plate Championship race, Turner will have the honour of using his prize ‘O’ number plate on his Senior X30 kart.

Additionally, Turner has the chance for yet more glory having also won a free entry to the IAME International Senior X30 Final to be held at the Le Mans circuit in France.
