Rotherham United: Kelly completes Millers deal

The Star revealed last week that the right-back had agreed terms, and the paperwork has now been completed.

Manager Alan Stubbs initially intimated Kelly would be staying for two years, but the length of the deal is 12 months.

The 32-year-old, who was a key man in the Millers’ successful Championship survival campaign last term, will report for the start of pre-season training with the rest of the Rotherham squad tomorrow.

Kelly joined the club as a free agent last November, but was hampered by injury during the managerial reign of Neil Redfearn.

He featured in the last 12 matches of last season, under Neil Warnock, and in his 15 games for the club has been on the losing side only twice.

He’s the third out-of-contract player to commit his future to the club, after centre-halves Richard Wood and Kirk Broadfoot put pen to paper earlier this month.

“We are delighted that we have come to an agreement with Stephen,” Stubbs said.

“We know how important his role was towards the back end of last season. After speaking with him, and the likes of Kirk Broadfoot, we are delighted to be in a position to announce that they have re-signed and that they are now looking forward to the upcoming season.

“I know the value that they can add to the team. They have been here, they know what it is all about and they have been a big part of the dressing room.”
