It’s been a campaign to remember for fledgling Rugby League Club, Dronfield Drifters.
In only their second season, they finished runners-up in the 3V Midland League despite losing only one match, to Howarth last month.
“It’s been a brilliant season for us.” said Chairman Mark Slatter. “Last year was a great start but we have really stepped up this year.
“This group of players have proved to be strong mentally when it matters; we’ve been down in games and come back to win. Most importantly it’s a really good bunch of lads who want to work for each other.”
The positive attitude at the Gosford Fields-based club has seen around 20 players return to the sport after they’d been forced to quit due to family or work commitments, among them former Sheffield Eagles duo Bright Sodje and Waisale Sovatabua.
“Waisale and Bright have been fantastic additions to the club,” added Mark. “Not only on the pitch, where they help with their organisational skills, but their most important benefit has been off the field.
“They help to coach the new players before, throughout and after the match on where they need to learn and improve. This has proved to be hugely beneficial and will be something we will look to continue with next year.”
