Rugby League: Aston makes a case for Eagles defence

Sheffield Eagles are determined not to be in a generous mood when they face Keighley Cougars in the Championship this Sunday.

Mark Aston’s team have halted an early season tendency to concede tries in the last couple of games.

“The lads are challenging themselves to be in the league’s top two defensively every week and that’s in their mind when we go out,” said Aston.

“They are ready to work hard and put their bodies where it’s needed and if we do that we can stop teams scoring tries.”

That determination will be tested by a Keighley team that will go all out to keep a good run going at Cougar Park on Sunday, kick-off 3pm.

Both teams go into the game on the back of wins, with Eagles defeating Dewsbury and the Cougars coming from behind to win by two points at Workington.

“Keighley have plenty of speed and some big fellas up front,” said Aston. “We must not underestimate them.”

Aston is likely to keep faith with the same 17.
