Sheffield Eagles started the first of their warm up fixtures for the 2016 season with a 14-38 victory over fellow Kingstone Press Championship side Dewsbury Rams.
The new look Eagles gave their followers encouragement for the campaign with a solid display on a pudding of a pitch at the Tetley’s Stadium.
Two old boys combined to give the Eagles the lead after eight minutes. Quentin Laulu-Togagae fed a pass into Rob Worrincy who forced his way over the line to score. Michael Knowles successfully slotted the extra two points.
Jason Muranka brought Dewsbury back into the game and Paul Sykes levelled with a successful conversation.
Cory Aston’s grubber kick was snaffled by Knowles for a try, and he also added the two.
Elliot Minchella then dived over and Knowles converted before Josh Guzdek brought Dewsbury back within touching distance.
Menzie Yere then scored for Eagles though Knowles couldn’t covert. Ben Blackmore ran 80 metres to score under the posts, Knowles added the extras.
Jason Crookes went over for Dewsbury, but Eagles showed their class with the try of the afternoon. Laulu-Togagae burst through the Dewsbury line and handed over to Millar who finished a scintillating move. Knowles converted.
Blackmore was sin binned for a high challenge, but the Eagles ended the game with a try on the break with Laule-Togagae again finding Millar for an easy run-in, Knowles failed with the conversion attempt.
