Sheffield Eagles Director of Rugby Mark Aston believes that their victory over Bradford Bulls will make the rest of the division sit up and take notice.
Eagles all but secured a position in the middle eight by inflicting defeat on the Bulls, and in doing so became only the third team to beat James Lowes’ side in the league this season. It’s the first time that the Eagles have turned over one of the Championship’s ‘big two’ this season, proving that they will be no pushovers should they progress through to the end of season promotion showdown.
“The Bradford win gives us a lot of confidence,” Aston said. “A lot of people have doubted us and think we cannot play in big games. It was a massive game for us last Sunday and the players stood up and were counted. If they stand up like they did again, we can get a result against anyone. We just needed to hang in there and we did on Sunday. The players were noisy in the dressing room, they were singing our song louder than they have ever sung it. They had a real tough, honest week but they came away with the result. It will be third against fifth when Eagles host Featherstone on Sunday (4.15pm.)
