Sharks set for tough weekend

SHEFFIELD Sharks resurgence has been rewarded by seeing two of their players in the BBL’s team of the week.

BJ Holmes and Demetrius Jemison, who were brought into the club after a poor start to the campaign, were both in excellent form last Friday against Mersey Tigers as Sharks saw off the BBL Championship basement club 99-64.

Point guard Holmes scored 16 points, dished out six assists and pulled down five rebounds while forward Jemison had statistically the best performance of the weekend in the league with 22 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

The American was nearly faultless in his shooting as he made eight of nine shots and all six free throws.

However, it’s a tough weekend for the Sharks. They travel to Newcastle Eagles on Friday before returning to Sheffield and then venturing further north on Sunday to take on play-off rivals Glasgow Rocks.

Newcastle are once again contending for the league title with their cup conquerors Leicester their closest rivals.

Sharks, meanwhile, are hoping to make the top eight and qualify for the end of season play-offs. Coach Atiba Lyons has been heartened by recent form which has seen them win four of their last six games but is looking for even more.
