Sheffield Sharks have made a brilliant start to 2016 with a comfortable 107-55 win against Surrey Scorchers, in arguably their best performance so far this season.
Sharks took control of the game early on in the first quarter, going on a 14 point to zero run to lead 27-10. George Brownell and Mike Tuck hit a couple of three pointers each to put Sharks in the driver’s seat, where the remained for the rest of the game.
The second quarter was total domination by Sharks star Antone ‘TJ’ Robinson, as he racked up 18 points and eight rebounds to send Sharks into halftime 56-24 in the lead.
Sharks kept up their high level of intensity, epitomised by the four steals made by Kyle Odister, giving Scorchers no time on the ball to formulate any sort of attack.
Jerrold Brooks added to the scoring with 10 points and four assists to put Sharks in a very comfortable position going into the last 20 minutes.
Sharks increased their lead to 44 points in the third quarter, going into a 78-34 lead.
A third three pointer by George Brownell rounded off another seven to zero point run for Sharks, whilst a late three pointer by John Barber effectively finished the game going into the fourth and final quarter.
The final ten minutes turned into a showcase for Sharks, as they put up a number of three pointers from Brooks, Tuck and Edward Brownell and a perfect alley-oop by John Barber to make it 94-40.
Further points from Barber and Marko Backovic saw Sharks reach the 100 point mark for the first time this season.
Jerrold Brooks picked up the MVP award for his 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists, although he was only one of three Sharks players to score over 20 points. Twenty-three points and 12 from TJ Robinson and 21 points andsix rebounds from captain Mike Tuck were two of the other stand out performances in this dominant Sharks win.
The win sees Sharks stay fifth in the table, only two points behind Glasgow Rocks with three games in hand. Scorchers however have dropped to tenth, just two points above last place Manchester Giants.
Sharks next game is at home to Bristol Flyers on Friday. Tip off is at 7:30pm at EIS Sheffield.
