Sheffield Steelers owner Tony Smith says he will miss Nate Dicasmirro.

The Italian-Canadian has been pursuing a job in Italy - something he’d been on the verge of twice during last season when his buddy Rob Sirianni left.

The 35-year-old was not a prolific scorer but saved the best till last - illuminating the Play Offs with some superb performances.

“If I could have ten Nates at the club I would take them every day of the week” said Smith. “Nothing was too much trouble for him.

“He told me that, at his age, he’d never expected to win a championship so he was delighted as anybody with the play off win.

“Now it is his right to try and earn as much money as he can over the next couple of years. He has a few offers on the table and I’m sure he’ll find his way back to Italy. He deserves that, he is one of the most professional players I have dealt with.”

Another veteran, ex Steeler Ashley Tait, 38, has signed an extension to his contract at Coventry Blaze.

Coach Marc LeFebvre said: “With the new rules coming into the league, it was imperative we locked up a quality British player such as Ash.

“He is a well respected captain and produces at both ends of the ice. He keeps himself in phenomenal shape to be able to keep playing at a high level.

“As a senior member of the national team he is a player that all of our young Brits should try and model themselves after in order to have such a fabulous long career as he has.”
