Sheffield Steelers coach Paul Thompson is masterminding a new video programme which will enable him to flag up concerns in the locker room, during game period breaks.
He wants technical experts to edit sections of games where there are issues - perhaps power play or penalty kill sessions - so he can quickly address them with the skaters concerned.
Thompson is meeting technical advisors this week, as part of his quest to upgrade preparation and general professionalism.
The team gets together for training camp on August 10, but the British-based contingent has already begun its pre-season.
The likes of Jonathan Phillips, Rob Dowd, Ben O’Connor, Rod Sarich, Jason Hewitt and Jeff Legue have all been having on-ice work outs at iceSheffield on Tuesday nights.
They have also been meeting with the club’s new fitness and conditioning coach, Danny Mawer.
Phillips will be starting his tenth season with Sheffield. Thompson will reveal whether he will remain captain after training camp.
There are obvious challengers in terms of pedigree - imports like Mathieu Roy, Mike Duco and Russ Moyer have all been skippers. But none have the knowledge of the club and the League that the Welsh winger has.
Steelers’ first games are two friendlies against Braehead Clan, August 15 and 16.
