PAUL Ragan has defended planned price hikes at Sheffield Steelers, despite unrest amongst fans.
The increases to season tickets, walk-ins and children’s prices are to enable the club to re-structure “into a more financially viable business” said the owner of the club and Cardiff Devils. “The stability to be gained from this coupled with a realistic, principled approach is reflected in the new season ticket packages. These packages are not only based on the actual financial costs of operating Steelers but mirror those that have proven to be practical and successful elsewhere in the RinkCorp organisation and Elite League. We accept that child prices have risen, but it must be noted that a previous price reduction in child tickets had shown no benefit to the club.”

Following the change of ownership to RinkCorp and rescue of the club back in December, our intention has always been to re-structure the Sheffield Steelers into a more financially viable business. The stability to be gained from this coupled with a realistic, principled approach to the business of The Sheffield Steelers is reflected in the newly launched season ticket packages.
These packages are not only based on the actual financial costs of operating the Steelers but mirror those that have proven to be practical, serviceable and successful elsewhere in the RinkCorp organisation and the Elite League.
The new season ticket packages announced on 1st March mean that the Sheffield Steelers can now offer three options of family tickets to make it more flexible and cost effective for families. A Direct Debit option has been introduced allowing fans to spread the cost of their hockey albeit a small charge will be made as this is a costly exercise for the club. In addition, a “Money Back Guarantee” enables those season ticket holders who pay in full by 31st August, the opportunity to be refunded their ticket money for up to six games they cannot attend, with no financial penalty.
We accept that child prices have risen, however it must be noted that a previous price reduction in child tickets this season had shown no benefit to the club. Also, our revised child prices are in line with the majority of other Elite Clubs. That said our position is that this increase is offset by the introduction of direct debit, early booking prices and the increased offer of family ticket options.
RinkCorp have and will continue to invest in the value of our offering – improvements have been made to our match night experience and many plans are in place to take the Steelers match night show back to the very top of the sport in the UK, for next season.
We provide our fans with an open and transparent organisation that operates responsibly, competitively and with strong commercial management. With these principles and increased marketing of the Club, we will be in a better position to offer the entertaining and successful Sheffield Steelers performances our fans anticipate.
