Sheffield Steelers Challenge Cup form received a timely boost last night, as they triumphed 4-2 at Cardiff Devils, whom they play at home tonight.

They looked unstoppable building a 4-0 lead by the half hour mark.

Jeff Legue, Drew Fata and Rob Dowd (2) did the damage.

A glimmer of hope for the Welsh arrived at 37.12 with a reply from Mark Richardson.

And 55 seconds gone in the third period Cardiff got a second as Andrew Lord netted with a 5 on 3 powerplay.

But then Doug Christiansen’s men shut up shop.

Braehead Clan’s ex Steelers’ d0man Chris Frank has been banned for five matches following his match penalty for headbutting at Fife Flyers on Saturday.

Frank was assessed the penalty in the second period (32:33) and the minimum five-match ban tariff has already been applied.

Head of discipline, Moray Hanson, said: “I was at this game and able to see the incident live.

“I was also able to quickly speak with the officials and review the incident on the game tape and it is a clear headbutt.”
