THE ROUSTING dispensed by Sheffield Steelers’ coach Ryan Finnerty when his side went 4-1 down at Cardiff Devils on Sunday reverberated in everybody’s ears.
Even the fans. Finnerty’s tirade was clearly audible to supporters and skaters alike.
But one player Rod Sarich, listened more intently than the rest, it seems. Despite playing out of position on the wing - a spot he is likely to hold for the rest of the campaign - he put on a master-class, scoring the eventual winner.
Finnerty said: “I got the biggest reaction from Sarich.”
He played with commitment and passion. He took the body when he could and showed he cared. He was a real leader out there.”
Nottingham Panthers, who beat Sheffield last Saturday and won at Hull on Sunday, are now one regulation away from winning the Elite title. That could come on Friday at second-placed Belfast Giants.
