Sheffield Steelers’ taste for Champagne

SHEFFIELD Steelers may have Champagne on ice!

The club - having lost Colin Shields to Belfast Giants - are trying to bring left wing Scott Champagne, aged 29, back in the opposite direction.

A deal has been put to both player and club, which may explain why Sheffield have softened their position on Shields’ defection. An answer from the Canadian is awaited.

Steelers want a goalscorer/set-up man and Champagne’s former teammate from Nottingham Panthers, Danny Meyers, would love to be re-united with him.

Meanwhile, Simon Ferguson has dedicated Thursday’s 9-4 win over Panthers to Jessop Hospital staff, who delivered his son earlier this week.
