Charles Wright’s flying start to life at Sheffield has been no shock for boss Simon Stead.
The 29-year-old lines up for Tigers against former club Redcar at Owlerton tomorrow (7.30) on the back of contributing 43 points in three meetings. Wright boasts chequered flags from half of his 18 rides for Tigers as well as impressing for Premiership Somerset Rebels.
“Charles has been fantastic but we knew what we were signing and that he would be capable of this kind of form,” said Stead. “He has settled in perfectly. It is early days but I have been pretty happy with how all of the new boys have started. We know the areas where we need to show improvement.”
Tigers tackle the Bears bidding to claim the upper hand in a battle for supremacy in the four-team Championship Shield Northern Group. All seven meetings have been won by the home side with leaders Scunthorpe the only team to register a consolation point so far.
Sheffield were a single point away from matching that in a 49-41 away loss to Scorpions on Friday with a run of three meetings in four days set to decide their fate in the competition.
After Redcar tonight, the reverse fixture takes place tomorrow before Sunday’s trip to Newcastle Diamonds. Stead said: “We know what we need to do and will be going for it to ensure we make it happen over the next three meetings”
Tigers will again track a six-man team with rider replacement utilised for Josh Bates who remains sidelined by a back injury.
Ty Proctor and Nathan Greaves guest in place of Redcar duo Matej Kus and Tobias Busch.
