Referee George dies
George Ware, a Life Member of Sheffield and District Referees’ Association and Sheffield and Hallamshire County RA, has died suddenly.
George, who lived at Greenhill, was a popular and efficient secretary of Sheffield RA for several years in the 1970s and later represented the County RA on its Midland Division.
He was awarded the National RA Long and Meritorious Award in 1993.
As a referee, he took up the whistle after playing locally as an uncompromising, but always fair, full-back.
He refereed in the local leagues and went on to serve the former Yorkshire League with pride and dedication.
