Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs face up to a double away day challenge this weekend as they look to maintain their impressive start to their campaign.
They have a perfect three out of three winning return from their iceSheffield matches so far but have one win out of three on the road.
Slough Jets are the first port of call on Saturday (6.30pm) followed by Sunday’s trip to Bracknall Bees (6pm) and player-coach Andre Payette will be hoping his second in the table Premier League side can produce a ‘home’ delivery ... twice over.
He will certainly look for improvement on the Steeldogs last on-the-road clash when they went down 3-0 to Guildford Flames, althlough he was happy in the way they bounced back to keep their perfect home record intact with a 4-2 win over Basingstoke.
Payette said: “It was disappointing at Guildford but the guys stepped up to the plate against Bracknell and turned in a really good performance.
Ben Bowns was exceptional and Janis Ozolins was our offensive spark.”
It was Ozolins who levelled it up for Steeldogs after Basingstoke had taken an eighth minute lead, with Bowns keeping the scorline to a single goal after being bombarded for much of the first period.
That man Ozolins put his side ahead at 24:40 after a great pass from Steve Duncombe and as Bowns continued to deny the visitors,
Ben Morgan added a third eight minutes later.
Ozolins received a 10 minute misconduct penalty but Greg Wood then fired in Steeledogs fourth at 38:25 to complete the turnaround.
The third quarter was halted when a big hit shattered the plexi but once play re-started Man of the Match Bowns again proved his worth although Bison did manage a consolation goal at 58:38.
Steeldogs return to iceSheffield on Saturday, October 22 against Telford Tigers (7.30pm).
