Steeldogs face Phoenix night

Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs have enjoyed a great pre-season with close run games against the superior Elite League teams of Hull Stingrays (5-5) and Sheffield Steelers (3-4).

Now comes the serious business of trying to clinch the War of the Roses silverware from last year’s League Champions, Manchester Phoenix before the start of the new Premier League campaign the following week.

Games against Manchester are alway full of physical end-to-end action and Saturday’s game at iceSheffield (7.30pm start) will be no different. Former Steelers legend Tony Hand has been busy recruiting over the summer and will look for his side to retain the Cup they have won for the last two years while Andre Payette will be determined to win it for the first time as Steeldogs’ head coach.

Extra spice has been added to the clash as Payette depleted Manchester’s team by enticing back Sheffielder’s Ben Morgan and Greg Wood, accompanied by experienced defenceman Pavel Gomeniuk while Ryan Johnson moved in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile Steeldogs received a major boost when Kalcrest Site Services Ltd, decided to become title sponsors for the season. Tickets for Saturday’s War of the Roses are available on the door: Adult £9, Concession £6.50, Child £3.50 (Under-8’s free) and Family £20.
