Sheffield Steelers celebrated promotion with a big win at Cheadle Hulme on Saturday.
In the end it was a comfortable 16-4 victory but Steelers started the game sluggishly and were playing without their usual discipline.
American Chaz Narwicz charged through the home defence to open the scoring but Cheadle Hulme levelled soon after. As the home team defended well against some ineffectual Sheffield attack, eventually Adam Jordan managed to pick out man of the match Dan Ievers’s darting run to put Sheffield 2-1 ahead at the first break.
Stern words from the injured Ben Lyon had the desired effect as Sheffield took control of the match. Jordan took a feed from Ollie Congreve to begin the goalfest before Congreve netted soon afterwards.
By half-time Sheffield led 8-2 and they extended that out to 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. There was no let up as Rob Hopkins ended the scoring by picking up his own rebound, circling around the goal and squeezing in a low shot from the left.
Scorers: Dan Ievers (4), Oliver Congreve (4), Chaz Narwicz (2), Tommie Barker (2), Ben Stringer (1), Rob Hopkins (1), Adam Jordan (1), Mark Colton (1).
