The only way is up for improving Tigers side!

Sheffield Tigers director of rugby Dan Richmond has urged his side to use the momentum from the last two games to move up the league table.

The Tigers are currently second bottom in the SSE National League Two North division despite having won just once of their opening ten games but that’s now all changed after back-to-back wins.

They followed victory over Harrogate with an 18-15 win at Dudley Kingswinford last weekend - the only team underneath them - and Richmond knows his side can give more when they face Birmingham & Solihull tomorrow.

He said: “We’ve just backed up a victory with one on the road but there is easily 25 per cent more we can give and that will be what we focus on this week.

“The aim is certainly to push up the league table but we’re looking at what we can control.

“We’re focusing on ourselves as a group, we’ll analyse Birmingham to identify their strengths and areas where we can apply pressure.

“If we can execute that well we can cause any team problems.”

Sheffield Tigers finished sixth last season but victory at Dudley was their first away win so far in what has been a difficult season.

And Richmond praised Dave Bradford and Jon Buchanan for keeping the spirits high within the squad.

He said: “There’s a massive amount of steel in this squad. It’s really surprised me how tight they are as a group and how hard they work each other in training.

“Dave and Jon are doing a fantastic job keeping the boys on track and keeping them focused about the standards we set which has had a knock-on effect in the matches.

“We’ve had a good look at ourselves over recent weeks and there’s a clear standard we’re setting.

“From a coaching point of view, there’s no better feeling than looking at different scenarios in training and seeing the boys apply them and have that clarity of thought in the heat of the moment.”
