Sheffield Tigers will look to bounce back from a heavy mauling at the hands of Stourbridge, when they host Leicester Lions this weekend at Dore Moor.
Tigers went down 39-0 to Stourbridge, who are in the hunt for promotion to National One.
“At Stourbridge we were playing against a very competent and professional outfit,” Tigers coach Ben Wade said.
“We came close to defeating them at Dore More back in November, only losing 22-20, and they came out very strongly intent on avoiding that scenario again.
“They are a team definitely earmarked for National One, and with games like that we have to be 100 per cent for 80 minutes.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t perform as well as we can.”
In December, the Tigers lost to Leicester 37-10 after a disappointing performance - and Wade is keen to avoid a repeat.
“We have a difficult run to close the season, and this weekend is another tough task,” he said.
“Leicester Lions have had some good results over the last few weeks and are above us in the league.
“They have a very strong pack and an excellent scrum, so we are going to have to be at the top of our game this weekend.”
It’s likely to be a muddy encounter, as the Tigers pitch has suffered from vast amounts of snow.
Against Stourbridge, Jon Buchanan, pictured above, made his 100th appearance for the Tigers, and back-rower Will Bennett was handed a debut.
On Sunday, the Tigers U17s team play in the U17 National Plate Competition Northern Region Final against Manchester at Dore Moor.
Tigers reached the regional finals with a 46-0 win at Blyth RUFC U17, and an impressive 30-17 home victory in very demanding conditions against Huddersfield U17.
Manchester reached this stage of the competition by beating Kirkby Lonsdale 24-5 and Keswick 22-7, both away from home.
The winner of this regional final will qualify to play the winners of the Midlands region, in the National Plate semi final.
Tigers’ Development team are away at Harrogate on Saturday, kicking off at 3pm.
