Last weekend was a cup weekend for both the city’s National League volleyball teams, with Sheffield women pitched against Women’s Super 8 side London IMKA Polonia. Despite the two-division difference between the sides, Sheffield weren’t disgraced by a 14-25, 12-25, 9-25 defeat.
“This team has the makings of a great team and would not be out of place in a higher division,” Polonia’s coach Mark Kontopoulous said.
Their next match is at home against Oxford students on November 9, a key game in their challenge for the league title.
Sheffield Hallam’s men, meanwhile, overcame South Birmingham 3-0 (25-0, 25-19, 25-20).
