1. Santa Safari

Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster, Sunday December 7, 10am-4pm

Yorkshire Wildlife Park present a special festive event in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the park’s own Wildlife Foundation. A fantastic festive fun treasure hunt to kick start the Christmas celebrations – and what better place than the home of one of Europe’s biggest polar bears, Victor! Entry fee includes: A Santa suit for adults, flashing Rudolph nose and antlers for kids plus a treat from Santa Meerkat when you complete the treasure hunt. Plus all day entry into the park. 2. Dick Whittington

Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield, running until Sunday January 4

Starring Samantha Womack , CBBC’s Andy Day and Sheffield’s favourite Dame, Damian Williams, Dick Whittington is a classic pantomime story packed full of hilarious jokes, sensational sets, larger than life characters and audience participation, telling the adventure story of a young man seeking his fortune in the big city with the help of his trusty, loyal and very hungry cat.This fun-filled extravaganza promises to be Sheffield’s biggest and most spectacular pantomime ever. 3. The Nutracker

Bank Street Arts, Sheffield, December 9-14 & 16-20, 6:30pm (& 2:30pm weekends).

Bank Street Arts will be transformed into the wintry world of The Nutcracker, in a new immersive adaptation of ETA Hoffman’s classic tale. Join little Billy Silvertree and Uncle Roy as they explore the depths of Billy’s extraordinary imagination: help rebuild the broken nutcracker, solve fiendish puzzles, and try to overthrow the evil Mouse-King. With original music based on Tchaikovsky’s famous score, imaginations young and old will be captured by this family-friendly adaptation by Paperfinch Theatre, enchantingly reinvented through live music, song, dance, puppetry and shadow. Tickets £10 and £5 for under-16s.

4. Christmas on the Farm

Sheffield Manor Lodge, Saturday December 6, Noon-4pm

Join Sheffield’s Manor Lodge for an afternoon of festive fun, with Santa’s Grotto, meet the donkeys, craft & gift stalls, music carols, children’s activities and delicious seasonal food and drink. Free entry. Tel: 0114 276 2828

5. Music in the Round 30th Anniversary

6. Antiques Quarter Christmas Market

In and around Abbeydale Picture House, Sheffield, Sunday December 7, 11am-4pm

7. Picturing Sheffield

Millennium Gallery, Sheffield, opened Saturday November 29

This new exhibition journeys through Sheffield past and present to examine the relationship between views of the city and the identity of the people who have lived and died here. Picturing Sheffield includes work by key artists from the 1700s to the present day, including JMW Turner, Joe Scarborough, Bill Brandt, Frank Constantine, Godfrey Sykes, Linda Benedict Jones and John Hoyland. 8. Anything Goes

Sheffield Theatres present their annual Christmas musical as Daniel Evans directs Cole Porter’s uplifting masterpiece of song, dance and romance. Featuring sensational songs including I Get A Kick Out of You, You’re the Top and It’s De-Lovely. Anything Goes promises tap dancing sailors, sassy heroines and a thrilling Christmas treat. 10. Grimethorpe Colliery Band

Sheffield City Hall, Friday December 12, 8pm

Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band are probably the most famous and celebrated brass band in the world with an international reputation for excellence. The hugely popular hit film Brassed Off was based on their struggles during the pit’s closure and how it affected the band and their families. Grimethorpe Brass Band did the sound track for the film. Grimethorpe pride themselves on not only their history but also in the quality of their performance in concert and competition and they have won an unprecedented 37 championship trophies.
