A Sheffield woman has re-written a 60’s pop song in the hope that a light-hearted musical approach to the subject might encourage people to get their Covid-19 jabs.

Vikki Fielden has released a cover of ‘The Locomotion’, and rebranded the 1962 Little Eva hit as ‘Get Your Vaccination’ to encourage more uptake.

Fielden hopes people will enjoy the video and that it may even help people feel more comfortable with the idea of getting vaccinated, and it’s the perfect upbeat tune to have running in your head when you get your jab.

Nikki said: "The original is such a classic song, it's almost irresistible.

"When I sang it in zoom sings, I could see everyone immediately start smiling and 'bopping' about in their little rectangles. These are difficult times, so this is just a bit of fun to accompany the 'medicine' we all need right now."

Fielden says the idea for the parody just came to her one evening, and she decided to see what she could come up with. She shared the results with a friend, who suggested she record it.

She has also enlisted the help of some friends from around the world, including Debra Chesman, who lives near New York.

Vikki and Chesman have never met in person, but both have been attending many of the zoom sings that sprang up in response to Covid lockdowns around the world, and struck up a friendship over the past year.

"The silver lining of lockdown, for me, has been connecting with distant friends, both new and old,” added Chesman.

Emily Eastwood, Marilla Homes and Fielden are all Sheffield residents who often sang together at local pub sessions before the pandemic shut down such things.

Originally from near Melbourne, Homes sent in her video and vocals in from Australia where she is visiting family.
