A museum dedicated to Barnsley has been named among the best visitor attractions in the country at an awards ceremony.
Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre was highly commended in the permanent exhibition category at the Museums & Heritage Awards for Excellence.
The visitor attraction, which opened last year, is dedicated to the history and people of Barnsley.
It is designed to be a place for visitors to uncover the story of the town told through centuries-old artefacts, documents, films and recordings.
Sue Thiedeman, Barnsley Council’s interim head of culture, said: “Given that the Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre has been open for less than a year, we are proud to be mentioned in the same breath as such established attractions as the Tower of London, the Mary Rose and the National Maritime Museum.”
