Book Club: Literary City: The Sheffield Connection

If you’ve been for a wander through the beautiful Winter Garden recently, you might have seen the Sheffield Independent Publishers pop-up shop selling their irresistible titles. The shop will be in residency until 30 July, so there’s still plenty of time to go along and grab yourself a few literary treats.

There are books available from two Sheffield-based publishers of poetry, The Poetry Business and Longbarrow Press, and one of fiction, And Other Stories. Stefan Tobler, Founder of And Other Stories, says: “Sheffield has an increasingly lively scene for literary publishing. It’s the leading city in the north for literary publishing, in fact! So we decided it’s

high time to present our carefully, lovingly made books to the public and have fun as booksellers.

“The Winter Garden and Millenium Gallery are beautiful places right at the heart of Sheffield, so we’re very excited to have our pop-up in the Winter Garden just at the entrance to the Gallery. We hope lots of readers will pop by for a chat and to support independent publishing - books made in Sheffield!”

And Other Stories moved to Sheffield is 2017, and publishes the best in contemporary writing, including many translations. Longbarrow Press is a poetry publisher with an ethos of craft, care and collaboration who produce books, recordings, films, walks and performances. The Poetry Business is a Sheffield-based poetry publisher that is also a writer development agency.
