Grimm & Co, Rotherham’s own ‘literary apothecary’, which aims to lift children out of their daily routine and show them the importance of exercising their imaginations, is hosting an exciting author event next week.
Abi Elphinstone is the latest famous writer drawn to South Yorkshire by this extraordinary place. She is author of the Dreamsnatcher trilogy and Sky Song, a story about an eagle
huntress, an inventor and an organ made of icicles. She will be giving a presentation,
showing mementos from her adventures and signing books.
All the funds raised from the event will go towards supporting Grimm &Co’s work developing creative writing with local children.
Boasting famous patrons from author Joanne Harris, to Sir Bob Geldof, to The League Of Gentlemen’s Jeremy Dyson, the literary apothecary was
borne out of a Sheffield University study into literacy.
The charity has also issued a call for any potential volunteers to come forward and help them with their work.
They are holding an ‘Afternoon Tea and Tour’ event where the public
can come along for sandwiches, cake and an exclusive look beyond the secret door to see how the people who work there change lives one story at a time.
The ‘Adventures with Abi Elphinstone’ event is on 5 April at 11.30am, tickets are £4 and are available from eventbrite. ‘Tea and a Tour Beyond the Secret Door’ is on 20 April at 1pm.
