TV botanist James Wong is coming to Bakewell next weekend, for the climax of the town’s second annual food festival.

The festival will take over the town centre on Saturday and Sunday, celebrating the wealth of produce on offer throughout the Peak District.

And Wong, presenter of BBC series including Grow Your Own Drugs, will be in town to give a talk and signing copies of his new book.

The event is one of several workshops and demonstrations planned for Sunday, April 28, in partnership with this year’s Bakewell in Bloom campaign, whose theme is Herbs and Veg.

The streets will be lined with more than 50 food stalls throughout the weekend.

There will also be a beer festival, food and wine tasting, a pop-up Italian food market and discounts at local pubs, cafés and restaurants. Family entertainment will include a fairground and a sheep show.

The festival coincides with the monthly farmers’ market on Saturday and a new garden and home fair at Bakewell showground on Sunday.
