Bedtime story special
It’s the end of the summer holidays and we have run out of things to do.
My children are lazing about in their pyjamas, so I have recruited them to write this section.
Here are their exclusive recommendations for the best books to hear read aloud at bedtime.
They love all of these, and I hope the children in your life will too.
Bumblebear by Nadia Shireen - “This book has brilliant pictures and it is a funny story. We love Amelia, one of the bees at Bumblebear’s school!”
Oi Frog, Oi Dog and Oi Cat by Kes Grey and Jim Field - “This is an amazing trilogy of books.
They are good for learning rhyming words, and we like it when the frog gets a splinter in his bottom and when the cat gets bitten on his bottom by gnats.”
Bananas In My Ears by Michael Rosen - “We really like these poems. It is funny when he
has bananas in his ears.”
The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch - “This is a really good story but it also has a message to it, that wearing nice clothes and being pretty doesn’t matter. The best way to beat a dragon is to be clever. We like it when the dragon burns one hundred forests.”
The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg - “The postman takes letters to everybody and there are lots of extra bits to play with, like a postcard from Jack to the giant and a story book about Cinderella.”
