Sound of silence at art auction

The British Red Cross are holding an exhibition and silent auction of local artists’ work to raise funds for Red Cross services in Yorkshire.

The event, which takes place in the Winter Garden from today (Thursday) through to Saturday features everything from the street art of Phlegm and the iconic takes on modern life by Sheffield favourite Pete McKee, to quirky Yorkshire scenes re-imagined by Caroline Appleyard and stunning landscapes and watercolours from Kristan Baggaley and John Paul Cooke.

Bids for the silent auction close on Saturday at 5pm. Bids can be made in person at the event or via the Red Cross Website by going to

From 12noon-7pm on Saturday there will also be the opportunity to talk to some of the artists about their work.
