John Magee is centre manager at Lakeside Village retail outlet centre in Doncaster. He lives in Handsworth with partner Shaun and their dogs.

Are you a cook?

I do cook sometimes, but it is usually left to my partner Shaun who is much better (and he can bake, too!)

Any cooking tips?

I like to prepare everything in advance before I start cooking - and always wash the pots up as you go.

What’s your favourite dish?

A roast pork Sunday lunch with loads of gravy and apple sauce.

And a drink to go with it?

A nice dry white wine.

Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area?

We recently had lunch at a lovely Italian in Nether Edge, called Casa Mia, the food was excellent, as was the service.

And pub?

For a more traditional pub I like The Golden Ball, Whiston, also the rooftop bar in Krynkl at Kelham for the atmosphere and cocktails.

What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?

I once had some awful green sausages in Singapore, they tasted as bad as they looked and we were all very unwell!

And the best?

We went to Northcote Restaurant, Lancashire, as part of their Obsession food festival and had a Chinese New Year themed menu cooked by Lu Yau who owns a

restaurant in Nanjing. It was beautiful and very different.

Your favourite TV cook?

Definitely Ina Garten, AKA Barefoot Contessa.

What do you think of Sheffield as a place to eat out?

There seems to be lots of different places for different occasions – a good mix of formal and casual options.
