Are you a cook?

I try. I can do a Sunday roast and follow a recipe but ask me to improvise with something from the fridge and I’m useless!

Any cooking tips?

Put a bit of vinegar in the pan before doing a poached egg.

What’s your favourite dish?

My mum’s roast rib of beef. Nothing else comes close.

And a drink to go with it?

A pint.

Your favourite restaurant in the Sheffield area?

That’s a hard one because I like different restaurants for different circumstances, but I did have a great meal at Juke and Loe’s on Ecclesall Road recently.

And pub?

The Rising Run at Nether Green – always a familiar face, great beer and good food too.

What’s the worst meal you’ve ever had?

On holiday once about 15 years ago a piece of under-cooked chicken put me in a Spanish hospital for two days with food poisoning!

The best meal you’ve ever had?

My mum’s Sunday roast.

Your favourite TV cook?

Rick Stein. I like his cooking style and the mix of food and travel. I’ve also just had the best fish and chips ever from one of his restaurants in Padstow!

Your opinion of Sheffield as a place to eat?

Great – I think we have a nice variety to suit different occasions. I will always try to eat in independent restaurants and avoid chains where possible.
