One of Sheffield’s leading restaurants is set to change hands next week, as acclaimed chef Marcus Lane passes over the reins at Rafters.
Marcus – voted Chefs’ Chef 2012 by his peers at last year’s Eat Sheffield Awards – has run the Nether Green restaurant for the last 13 years.
But, if all goes according to plan, on Monday he will hand over the keys to Young Chef of 2012 Tom Lawson and respected front-of-house manager Alastair Myers.
Until recently the two new owners led the award-winning team at the Devonshire Arms, Middle Handley.
Rafters was established in 1994, run for some years by the Bosworth brothers, then taken over by Marcus in 2001.
Long regarded as one of the city’s finest restaurants, it has two AA rosettes and is recommended in all the top restaurant guides.
Marcus took time out last year after a bout of ill health, but has been back at the helm for the last few months. He plans to work alongside the new owners for the rest of the year – but is looking forward to his first-ever Christmas off.
Marcus says: “This is a big part of my life and I’m happy that it’s being passed on to two young people who have a passion for the restaurant.”
