Jason Williams, new owner of award-winning Jaquest Fine Foods, has won his first official endorsement since taking over the business a year ago.

The delicatessen and smokery, on the Bolsover Industrial Park, has notched up four Great Taste Awards: for duck salami, smoked halloumi, venison bacon and venison biltong.

Jason, who runs the firm with partner Rachel Lancaster, said: “We couldn’t wish for a better stamp of approval. These are the first awards we’ve won since taking over and we’re delighted to be living up to the extremely high standards of our founder, John Jaquest.”


The team behind the award-winning Milestone dining pub at Kelham Island has opened a new artisan pizza house just up the road.

Craft & Dough, at 1 Kelham Square, specialises in craft beers, cocktails and artisan pizza – from roast butternut squash and feta at £5.50, to smoked salmon, crayfish and cream cheese at £9. House beer £2.50.


Let’s raise a glass to the Pasta Bar in Sharrowvale Road – which now offers a BYO option on Sunday evenings.

From last weekend diners are welcome to bring their own wine from 4pm on Sundays, to quaff with the spaghetti, spirale and linguine. Corkage £2.


Sheffield University’s David McKown – front-of-house training expert and the man behind the Skills for Service conference – has received national recognition as Educator of the Year.

David, who received the Art of Service Award from ‘service guru’ Fred Sirieix, said: “I’m surprised and delighted. To be recognised by the industry’s most respected educator is tremendous.”
