Choir invites new singers to join in the performance

A leading choir from Sheffield is offering people the chance to perform in a one-off workshop.

Sheffield Oratorio Chorus is to hold a workshop day on Saturday, September 14, which will end in an informal public performance.

The workshop, between 10am and 6pm, will combine classes to improve singing ability and technique with rehearsal and a performance of Faure’s Requiem.

Lydia Lord, Oratorio Chorus chair, said: “We want to encourage people to give singing with the choir a go in a relaxed and friendly environment, where there will be lots of others who are new to the choir too.

“There will also be existing members taking part in the workshops as we are always aiming to improve our sound as a choir.

“The music we will be using is some of the best loved choral music, which will be familiar to many.”

The workshop will be held at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church, Upper Hanover Street, Sheffield. Tickets are £25 and can be booked at

Audience tickets for the performance of the Faure Requiem, which will begin in the church at 5pm, are £5 and are available on the door.
