You’re Beautiful chart topper James Blunt will raise money for Help For Heroes when he plays Doncaster Racecourse on Saturday, August 16.

Britain’s most successful singing ex-squaddie, who was a cavalry officer in the Life Guards regiment, is also a patron of Help For Heroes.

The charity raises cash and campaigns to provide better facilities for British servicemen and women who have been wounded or injured in the line of duty.

Now Doncaster Racecourse has announced a £55 Patrons Package for the day he plays, including Grandstand Enclosure admission for two people - standard price £31 per ticket - a racecard, concert tickets and a “sizeable donation” to Help for Heroes.

The star, whose uncle worked for The Jockey Club, rose to fame in 2005 with the release of his platinum selling, debut studio album Back to Bedlam before achieving worldwide fame with the singles You’re Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover.

He has since gone on to sell 17 million albums and 20 million singles worldwide.

Blunt, who has earned a string of Brit Awards and endless international awards, was part of the Household Cavalry of the British Army.

He rose to the rank of captain and served as an armoured reconnaissance officer in the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo and was put in charge of leading 30,000 troops into Pristina as the first British officer to enter the Kosovan capital. It was while on duty in Kosovo that he wrote the song No Bravery.

Mark Spincer, managing director of Doncaster Racecourse, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming platinum-selling singer James Blunt to Doncaster Racecourse for what promises to be an exciting summer day of thrilling horse racing and live music. With our Patrons Package, guests can take advantage of a great offer, all whilst helping a fantastic cause such as Help for Heroes.”

Bryn Parry, Co-Founder of Help for Heroes: “We’d like to thank Doncaster Racecourse and our patron, James Blunt, for putting on this amazing fundraiser for Help for Heroes. Not only will everyone who attends have a great time, but they will also be making a huge difference to the lives of some very brave men and women.

“The war in Afghanistan may be nearly over but for many members of the Armed Forces and their families, their battles are just beginning. We won’t let them battle alone. This year’s anniversary events for WW1 and D-Day remind us how important this is and the shared respect between the veterans of all generations. We hope all racegoers have a wonderful day.”

All tickets and hospitality for the event include racing followed by James Blunt live after racing.
