Evgenia Rubinova: Piano soloist when the Halle plays Sheffield City Hall on Friday, January 25, 2013.

CLASSICAL pianist Evgenia Rubinova performs with The Hallé orchestra and we have a family ticket to be won to see the concert at Sheffield City Hall, on Friday, January 25.

That’s four tickets - for two adults and two children.

It features Symphony No 3 by Brahms and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1, and opens with Mendelssohn’s musical seascape, Fingal’s Cave.

Following the Hallé’s performance of Brahms’s sunlit Second Symphony last season, the eminent Finnish conductor Okko Kamu presents a performance of the composer’s richly melodic Third.

Prompted by a visit to the banks of the Rhine, this piece has always had many admirers, amongst them Sir Edward Elgar. Tchaikovsky’s flamboyant concerto is well-known for its opening flourish, grandiose piano chords, heroic bravado and big Russian tunes.

Soloist, Evgenia Rubinova, silver medal winner in the 2008 Leeds International Piano Competition, is one of the most impressive pianists of the younger generation.

The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s musical seascape, Fingal’s Cave – so evocative, you can almost smell the saltwater!

Also don’t miss the pre-concert Talk with Trisha Cooper, at 6pm - it’s free to all ticket holders

The conductor, soloist or musicians connected with each programme have been invited to talk to Trisha Cooper ‘In Conversation’ before every concert during the classical concert season at the City Hall.
