CHRISTMAS week brings lots of activites in and around Sheffield - here are top tips for things to do, December 22 to 29, 2012.
1. Santa, Elves and Sleigh Bells at the Tropical Butterfly House, Daily, December 22 - 24
Experience a classic Christmas at the Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre! Visit the nativity scene in the cosy stable, meet friendly farm animals and take a peek in the manger. Hitch a ride aboard a magical sleigh on your way to meet Father Christmas in his enchanting grotto. Sip a warming glass of mulled wine, sample delicious hot chocolate and homemade festive goodies, and then browse a selection of festive stocking fillers in the Jungle Gift Shop. 2. Festive Factory, at Weston Park Museum, December 22, 1pm – 4pm
With only days left till Christmas why not bring the family along to Weston Park Museum for a day of festive crafts. Drop in and make arty decorations to take away and decorate your house just before Christmas. Activities will be suitable for children of all ages. This event is completely free.

3. Christmas Crackers, at Millennium Gallery, Daily, December 22– January 20
With a feast of original craft and design, Christmas Crackers provides an inspired alternative to the High Street for this year’s Christmas shopping. With only a few days left till Christmas come along and choose affordable gifts, from beautiful jewellery to stylish glassware and ceramics, all handmade by UK-based craftspeople. This is the perfect place to get a few unique and original gifts. There are no admission fees.

4. Santa’s Sunday Carvery at Wortley Hall, December 23, 12pm – 2.30pm
Bring the family along to Wortley Hall and enjoy a festive two course carvery followed by a special visit from Father Christmas bearing gifts for all the good little boys and girls. Admission
fees are: Adults £10.75, Child £7.
5. Made in Yorkshire Festive Fayre at Sheffield Cathedral, December 23, 11am – 4pm
This is the first time Made in Yorkshire Festive Fayre is to be held in Sheffield, it is part of the city’s programme of yuletide celebrations. There will be an exciting range of Christmas traders, festive illuminations and carol concerts. This is the perfect day out on the run up to Christmas. You can also enjoy homemade mulled wine, mine pies and other food goodies will also be served in the Made in Yorkshire Cafe, within the marquee. The Festive Fayre will take place on the Cathedral forecourt. There is no admission fee just come along on the day.

6. Santa at the Museum, at Weston Park, Monday, December 24, 10am – 5pm
It’s your last chance to see Santa at the Museum this Christmas. Last Christmas Santa at the Museum received a big thumbs up from Weston Park visitors, so once again the museum has
been turned the Arctic World gallery into Santa’s North Pole home and he’ll be there in person giving out quality presents. There is no need to book just drop in on the day. Admission fee is £5 per child, including gift.

7. Christmas Market, at Sheffield City Centre, Fargate, Monday, December 24
A magical experience awaits you on Fargate with Traditional wooden cabins offering a huge choice of seasonal goodies makes this the perfect place to stock up on gifts, foods and treats! 8. Cinderella at Lyceum Theatre, Thursday, December 27, 2pm & 7pm
Polish those glass slippers and get ready to have a ball! Cinderella is a truly spectacular show, which combines the classic fairytale with brilliant singing and dancing, side–splitting comedy, truly amazing illusions and lots of audience participation! This year’s festive treat will once again be written and directed by Paul Hendy and produced by the same team who brought you last year’s smash–hit show, Sleeping Beauty. 9. Aladdin, at Sheffield City Hall, Thursday, December 27, 2pm & 6.15pm
Manor Operatic Society returns with their annual family pantomime, and this year it’s Aladdin. This is a fabulous pantomime for all the family at Christmas. 10. Magic Worlds, at Weston Park Museum, Friday, December 28, 10am – 4pm
Magic Worlds is a family-friendly exhibition which delves into the spell-binding world of magic and illusion. Created by the V&A Museum of Childhood, Magic Worlds will invite visitors to explore the fantastical realms of witches, wizards and fairies and celebrate the conjuring feats of the finest stage magicians. Visitors will find displays based on their favourite fantasy tales, including Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. This is a great day out for the family over the Christmas holidays. There are no admissions fee just drop in throughout the day.

11. Rapunzel, at Lyceum Theatre, Saturday, December 29, 11am & 1.30pm
Following last year’s wonderful adaptation of Hare and Tortoise, Tutti Frutti and York Theatre Royal present this fabulously playful production of Rapunzel by Mike Kenny; a story about a girl who is taken away from what she knows and protected from all the things that she loves. Rapunzel is a delightful new production for children about the curiosity and joys of growing up, risk taking and discovering who you are.
