Stallone, best known for his roles as Rocky, Rambo and Barney Ross in The Expendables, says he cannot wait to punch the air in Sheffield.

The 68-year-old said: “There’s been so many good fighters from Sheffield. There’s also been some really interesting singers.

“But it’s one of those cities that is a mystery to me.

“I’ve heard about it but I haven’t been there, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Previewing the event, he said: “There will be some pretty candid conversation, where I am asked questions by the host – about what happened behind the scenes, relationships with other actors, anecdotes about stunts or action films and then perhaps what it’s like to start at the bottom and then claw your way up to the top, then go down and back up, how life has its mountains and valleys. It’s life in general.

“Then we open up the audience to questions and answers and try to respond as candidly as possible to everything they ever want.

“But mostly it’s just story telling on a much more uninhibited basis.”

Read, a huge Stallone fan, has won 10 National Broadcaster Awards and got the Gold Badge of Merit by the Music Association for his special contribution to Britain’s music industry.

A best-selling author, he has written 36 books, including his recent autobiography, Seize the Day, and Forever England, a biography of Rupert Brooke.

The 67-year-old has also written eight stage musicals and songs for more than 40 major artists, has had several chart hits and twice topped the Independent singles chart.

He is also chairman of the British Plaque Trust, chairman of the Lords and Commons Entertainment Committee and was created a Knight of Malta in 2011.
