Exciting new Sheffield bar is inspired by Seville - and serves drinks in two thirds measures

Two Thirds Beer Co, which opened in December, offers punters access to over 16 different rotating keg and cask beers, available in two third measures and half and full pints, as well as a replete bottle bar and an assortment of wines.

The unique concept of focusing on two third measurements is the brainchild of fellow band members Danny Clare and Ben Stubbs, who both play for Sheffield-based band Saint Petersburg, alongside friend and business partner Adam Inns.

They have collectively taken their inspiration from Seville in Spain where beer is served in smaller measures and allows for punters to try a wider range of the alcoholic fare on offer.

Since opening, they have been offering the ‘trendy’ area everything from a tirimasu stout to Christmassy fizz.

Transforming the site of the former vegan dessert café, Steel City Cakes, the new venue – which is situated alongside popular haunts including The Broadfield, Picture House Social, Barrowboy and Dead Donkey – had an extremely successful festive period, including teaming up with another Abbeydale Road favourite, Ajanta’s Vegetarian, to bring a delicious Indian street food menu to their free New Year’s Eve party.

Co-owner, Danny Clare, said: “This has been a dream of ours for some time now and we couldn’t be more pleased to be in a position to open our doors after what has been a year of hard work.

“We wanted to do something a bit different and were really inspired when we were last on holiday in Spain, we think the bar will complement what is already established on Abbeydale Road, which has become a real hive of activity once the sun goes down.”

The bar offers spirits, wines and beers from around the world.

Although some people may be focusing on ‘Dry January’, ‘Tryanuary’ is a new initiative that inspires punters to try new independent watering-holes during January to support pub trade in the quietest month of the year.
