It was free with The Star on Friday but you can also get one from The Star stand at the Tour de France community event at Don Valley Bowl today - Sunday, July 6. But be early. When they’re gone, they’re gone.
The pocket guide contains all you need to know about the Sheffield leg of the world’s biggest annual sporting event, including a map, where the race is going through South Yorkshire and all the timings - to help you decided where to see it.
There’s fun and games to help you understand the biggest annual sporting spectacle.
And while you’re waiting by the side of the road, to cheer on all the riders, you can also catch up with our latest Tour de France videos...using a process called augmented reality.
It might seem complex, but it isn’t. Basically, it works like QR codes, but allows you to see what you’re looking at through your mobile camera, while in this case turning a section of it into a video screen.
Watch the map come to life, playing our Tour de France coverage videos. We’ll change what you see, to our latest offerings, throughout the Grand Depart.
It sounds like magic. Like something out of a Harry Potter film, where newspaper pages come to life.
But that’s exactly what you can do, for free, using our Tour de France Pocket Guide and the free Aurasma augmented reality app.
Download the Aurasma app from your App Store, open it, search for and follow The Star Channel.
Then return to the app’s camera mode on your mobile device, point it at the map and hey presto...watch the page turn into a video.
Tap the screen twice, as the video plays, and it will fill the screen on your device. Tap once and it will take you to our Le Tour Live page - bringing you all our live Grand Depart coverage, including pictures, video and more, via our social network channels, at www.thestar.co.uk/sport/tour-de-france/le-tour-live.
Our team of reporters will be covering the entire route through South Yorkshire. So keep checking back and we’ll tell you when the race is about to reach your stretch of the route - keeping you up with all the action.
You’ll need web connection - much of Sheffield now has 3G and 4G coverage - but be mindful, watching video and browsing the internet will use some of your digital download allowance. So always get the bill payer’s permission.
DOWNLOAD THE AURASMA APP
Then search for and follow The Star Channel on Aurasma - or, once you’ve downloaded the Aurasma app, you can follow The Star Channel using your mobile by clicking here.
